How Do I Look After My Stairlift?
Having a stairlift is a long-term investment. As such, it’s vitally important that you keep your stairlift well-maintained to ensure that it has a long lifespan. To give you a hand with your stairlift maintenance, we’ve created a brief guide on how to look after your stairlift effectively.
Maintenance Tips For Your Stairlift
Check Moving Parts
It’s important to ensure that all of the moving parts of your stairlift work effectively. Keeping an eye on the chair, armrests and cable, and checking that they work properly, will improve safety as well as expand the stairlift’s lifespan.
Clean The Track
The track of your stairlift is one of the most important parts of the entire machine. As such, you should dust and clean the track often to reduce a build-up of dust which can impede the performance of the stairlift.
Lubricate
As well as ensuring that dust does not build on the track, you should also lubricate the track semi-regularly. Using an approved lubricant, grease the track once every three months or so. This will ensure that your stairlift is safe for use and will work effectively for longer.
Tighten Screws
Screws can sometimes work their way out of fittings over long periods. To ensure that your stairlift remains safe, check that the screws remain tight. Do this on a semi-regular basis and tighten any fittings that need adjustments.
Change Batteries Once Per Year or Two
If your stairlift runs on batteries, you need to keep them charged all of the time. However, more than that, batteries will need to be completely changed from time to time as well. Generally, you’ll need to have the batteries completely changed once every year or two.
