Common Faults on a Stairlift and How They Can be Fixed
As convenient and useful a solution as stairlifts can be, as with everything power-operated, they can sometimes experience faults. It’s helpful to know what some of these troubleshooting issues may be and how to identify them, as well as what can be done to fix them.
Read on below as we discuss what these are so that you’re prepared should you encounter any of them with your stairlift.
Stairlift Won’t Start
Check the Key Switch
If you find that your stairlift won’t start, then one of the first things you can do is to check the key switch. Turn the on/off buttons on the chair arm and on the separate control units to ensure buttons are in the on position.
Remove and reinsert the key, ensuring it’s in the correct position. If your stairlift still won’t turn on, then consider calling your stairlift technician.
Adjust the Seat
Stairlift chairs have a standard swivel position. If the seat is facing away from the stairs and towards the landing or the floor, then your stairlift won’t start and should alert you about the problem.
To overcome this, ensure that you always swivel the chair back to its riding position before each use, as this will lock the mechanism back into place. If the position is still wrong, an error code will be displayed. If the position is correct, then your stairlift should operate.
Stairlift Returns to Starting Position
Check for Obstruction
If there is an obstruction on your stairs, then your stairlift is made to detect this. Upon meeting an obstruction whilst operating, then you may find that your stairlift stops and returns to its starting position.
If you have someone available to go on the stairs for you, then ask them to remove the obstruction for you. In the future, ensure that you don’t place any obstructions on the stairs that may impact your stairlift’s journey.
Atypical Beeping Sounds
Call Your Technician
Oftentimes if there’s a technical issue with your stairlift, then it will let you know – most likely by beeping at you.
If your stairlift is beeping at you and you’ve noticed that it’s operating slower or differently than normal, then it’s best to call your stairlift engineer to come and have a look at it for you so they can get to the bottom of the issue and resolve it.
