How to Clean Your Stairlift

If you have a stairlift in your home then chances are you’re using it every day – but have you been cleaning it regularly? It’s easy to forget about cleaning your stairlift but doing so is important for your personal hygiene and keeping the equipment running smoothly.

Here are just a few easy steps that you can follow to keep your stairlift clean.

Read the manual and follow recommended cleaning advice

Before you start cleaning, it’s a good idea to read the instructions manual first or get in contact with a representative from your supplier. By doing this you will know exactly how you should clean your stairlift safety, what to use and what to avoid.

Dust the stairlift and remove debris

Using a feather duster or dry cloth at least once a week is ideal for removing surface dust and lodged debris. Even a small amount of build-up can stop your stairlift running smoothly so it’s important to keep the stairlift and surrounding areas as clear as possible. Little and often is the best way to do it.

Wipe down the stairlift

The seat, armrest and control pad are the most touched areas of the stairlift so they need to be kept clean. Use a damp cloth and antibacterial spray if permitted, to wipe down these areas and regularly especially if more than one person is using the stairlift.

Keep the track lubricated

Stairlifts run on a track from the bottom to the top of your stairs and is perhaps the most important part of the product. Keeping the track lubricated every few months will ensure that the stairlift can run smoothly from A to B without feeling stiff or jolting. Only a small amount of lubricant is needed but do not apply it to the chain.
