Spring Activities for the Elderly in the Cotswolds

Spring is finally blooming its buds and the weather is starting to tease us with a prickle of warmth, which means it’s only a matter of time until the sun is shining more often than not and everywhere outside is bursting with colour.

After a long, cold and dreary winter, spring is the perfect time to get back outdoors and enjoy your surroundings. If there’s one place in particular that offers the opportunity to do just that, it’s the Cotswolds! Keep reading as we discuss some of our favourite spring activities for elders to partake in throughout the Cotswolds.

Visit Cotswold Farm Park

Approximately a half-hour’s drive from Cheltenham, Cotswold Farm Park (owned by Adam Henson) is home to a diverse range of British Farm species and breeds, many of which you can meet and interact with closely. Their lambing event is also currently happening, allowing you to witness live births and learn more about these new arrivals thanks to the talks given by the farm park’s team of experts.

The farm park is also highly accessible for wheelchair users and you can even call ahead of your visit to reserve a manual wheelchair they keep on site if you struggle with mobility and would require one at some point throughout the day.

To really elevate your visit, you can head to the Ox Shed for a bite to eat – the farm park’s exquisite dining facility serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Community Garden at Stow-on-the-Wold Surgery

Reopening on the 3rd April, the Community Garden at Stow-on-the-Wold Surgery is open every Wednesday from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Run by the local charity Cotswold Friends, the garden is designed to be disabled-access friendly, with everyone welcome to participate.

Whether you’re looking to meet new people, learn or share some gardening skills or simply desire to get out in the fresh air, this is the perfect place to socialise this spring! You could even bring along some cake and have a chat with other attendees if gardening isn’t your strong suit – baked goods are always popular, afterall!

Go Wildlife Watching

The Cotswolds are known for their charming countryside landscapes, making them the perfect place to spot various British wildlife. Whether you visit a nearby paddock, field or woodland, or simply sit and observe in your own garden, there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy at this time of year from deer to birds to butterflies.

Getting outdoors and observing nature can be an incredibly calming and rewarding experience that’s great for your mental health, so we highly recommend going out on at least one wildlife walk this spring.

The Best Stairlifts in the Cotswolds

Are you starting to struggle with your mobility in your older years? Don’t let your enjoyment for the outdoors take its toll on your accessibility needs at home – invest in a home stairlift

By utilising the benefits of a stairlift in the home, you will be catering to your mobility needs rather than putting further pressure on your joints and muscles, allowing you to save your strength for your outdoors excursions so that you can make the most of them this spring.
